Alcohol use disorder (AUD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) commonly co-occur in active military service men and women, veterans, and victims of violence and sexual assault. The co-occurrence of those conditions is a public health concern because it worsens adverse health outcomes and complicates treatment for both. These articles examine the current literature on the prevalence, diagnosis, causes, risk factors, and treatment for co-occurring AUD and PTSD.
